May 10, 2015; 7:00pm; Northern Virginia Baha’i Center, 21415 Cardinal Glen Circle, Sterling, VA
On May 10, the Baha’is of the United States will host an evening with Mahnaz Parakand, an Iranian human rights defender and the former lawyer of the Yaran, the seven imprisoned leaders of the Iranian Baha’i community. May 14 will mark the seventh anniversary of the incarceration of these seven leaders, who are now serving 20-year sentences, the longest sentences of any prisoners of conscience in Iran. Ms. Parakand will discuss her experiences as a human rights lawyer in Iran, including her representation of the Yaran, and will take questions from the audience. The event will be held in Persian, with simultaneous interpretation into English.
The event is free and open to all those who wish to attend. It will not be live streamed.
